A landlocked country in Southern Africa, Zimbabwe is truly a World of Wonders. From historical ruins, to spectacular safari experiences, and breathtaking scenery, Zimbabwe has a lot of to offer. Some of the key sights in the country include:

1. Victoria Falls – Located on the Zambezi river, on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest waterfall, and one of the most visited sights in Africa. Known locally as “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” or “The Smoke That Thunders,” the noise and spray from the Falls can be heard and seen from over 40 kilometers away!

2. Hwange National Park – The largest national park in Zimbabwe, Hwange provides some of the best game viewing opportunities in Africa. The park is particularly well known for being one of the world’s greatest African Elephant reserves, with around 40,000 tuskers, but it is also home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo and more than 400 species of birds.

3. Great Zimbabwe – Constructed between the 11th and 15th century by the Shona dynasty, Great Zimbabwe was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the Iron Age. The stone city spans an area of 7.22 square kilometers, and at its peak could have housed up to 18,000 people.

4. Matobo National Park – A part of the larger Matobos Hills region, Matobo National Park is an area of granite kopjes and wooded hills in southern Zimbabwe, 35 miles south of Bulawayo. Matobo Hills was designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.

5. Gonarezhou National Park – Near the border with Mozambique, Gonarezhou National Park, which translated from Shona means “The Place of Elephants,” has a large population of African elephants, Cape wild dog, hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, black and white rhinos, lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena.

6. Honde Valley – Part of the Eastern Highlands mountain range, Honde Valley is an endless sea of greenery, with sloping tea plantations as far as the eye can see and a variety of bird species.

7. Nyanga National Park – Nyanga National Park is home to the Nyangombe waterfall, the World’s End viewing platform, where one gets a spectacular view of the Eastern Highlands mountains and Honde valley, and Mount Nyangani, the highest mountain in Zimbabwe, at a height of 2,592 meters or 8,504 feet.

8. Mana Pools National Park – Situated on the northern banks of the Zambezi river, in northern Zimbabwe, Mana Pools is a paradise for walking and canoeing safaris. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is home to hippopotamus, crocodile, elephants and a wonderful array of aquatic birds.

Victoria Falls

Hwange National Park

Hwange is the largest National Park in Zimbabwe. It is famous for being one of the world’s greatest elephant reserves with around 40,000 tuskers, as well as home to one of Africa’s largest populations of endangered wild dog. One can also find lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo and more than 400 species of birds in the park.

Great Zimbabwe

Constructed between the 11th and 15th century by the Shona, Great Zimbabwe is the Iron Age capital of Zimbabwe. It is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The stone city spans an area of 7.22 square kilometers and could have housed up to 18,000 people at its peak. The ruins consist of three groups of architectural structures known as the Hill Complex, the Valley Complex and the Great Enclosure.

Matobo National Park

Matobo National Park is a part of the larger Matobos Hills region, an area of granite kopjes and wooded hills in southern Zimbabwe, and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. To the west of the park is the Matobo Game Park, where visitors can see white and black rhinos, sable antelope, giraffe, zebra, impala, wildebeest and ostrich. Matobo Park also has caves with ancient cave paintings.

Gonarezhou National Park

Gonarezhou National Park, which translated from Shona means "the place of elephants," has a large population of African elephants, in addition to Cape wild dog, hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, black and white rhinos, lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. One of the prominent natural features of the park is the Chilojo cliffs, majestic sandstone cliffs that tower 180 meters high.

Honde Valley

The Honde Valley is a part of the Eastern Highlands mountain range in eastern Zimbabwe. Given the average altitude of 900 meters above sea-level, and the climate and soil of the region, there is an abundance of tea and coffee plantations in the valley. With a wide range of bird species found here, it is also one of the premier destinations for birding.

Nyanga National Park

Nyanga National Park is located in the area known as the Eastern Highlands. The park is dominated by Mount Nyangani, the highest peak in Zimbabwe, at a height of 2,592 m or 8,504 ft. The park also has a variety of wildlife including kudu, reedbuck, buffalo and even some lions and leopards. Other key sights include the World's End viewpoint and the Nyangombe waterfall.

Mana Pools National Park

Mana Pools National Park is located in the far north of Zimbabwe, near the border with Zambia. The name "Mana," meaning four, comes from the fact that there are four permanent pools or watering holes in the park. The park is home to abundant wildlife, especially elephants, hippos, wild dog, and Nile crocodiles, but also buffalo, zebra, antelope, over 450 species of birds, cheetah, hyena, leopard, and lion.
