Salta City

Situated in the Lerma Valley, 1,152 meters (3,780 ft) above sea level, Salta is famous for its old, colonial architecture, the teleférico (cable car) that goes up Cerrado San Bernardo, a hill that offers spectacular views of the city, and the two artisan markets where one can find textiles, leather goods, indigenous handicrafts and ceramics.

Salinas Grandes

Located about 4.5 hours north of Salta, at an average altitude of about 3,450 m (11,320 ft), Salinas Grandes is the third largest salt flat in the world. Covering nearly 212 km sq, this vast white desert was once Lago Salinas Grandes, a lake that evaporated in the Holocene epoch.

Purmamarca

A small village on the way to Salinas Grandes, Purmamarca is located near the brilliant Cerro de los Siete Colores, a rock formation with seven different colors. The town is also the gateway to the breathtaking Quebrada de Humahuaca, a multi-colored mountainous valley on the drive from Argentina to Bolivia.
