Temple of Debod

The Temple of Debod (Templo de Debod) is an ancient Egyptian temple that was gifted to Spain by the Egyptian government as a gesture of gratitude for Spain’s assistance in saving several Egyptian temples during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The temple was originally built in the 2nd century BC in the ancient village of Debod in southern Egypt, and was dedicated to the goddess Isis and the god Amun. In 1972, it was carefully dismantled and transported to Madrid, where it was reconstructed in the Parque del Oeste (West Park).

The Temple has a design typical of the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. It consists of several chambers, including a main sanctuary, and is surrounded by a stone courtyard. It features hieroglyphic inscriptions and reliefs depicting various Egyptian deities. Visitors can enter the temple and explore its interior, which houses a small museum that provides information about its history and significance.
