Parque del Buen Retiro (Retiro Park)

The Parque del Buen Retiro (Retiro Park), is a tranquil, green oasis in the heart of Madrid. Originally a royal garden, the park was created in the 17th century as part of the grounds of the Buen Retiro Palace, which served as a retreat for Spanish monarchs. It was opened to the public in the 19th century.

Covering over 350 acres, the park is famous for its lush greenery, tree-lined avenues and beautifully landscaped gardens, its wide variety of trees including pine, oak and chestnut, and its Rose Garden, which features over 4,000 Rose bushes of different varieties. The park also has several iconic landmarks like the Palacio de Cristal (Crystal Palace), a beautiful glass and iron structure that resembles a greenhouse, the Fountain and Statue of the Fallen Angel, and The Paseo de las Estatuas (Sculpture Promenade), a tree-lined avenue adorned with statues of Spanish kings and historical figures.

Visitors can enjoy picnics and leisure activities in the park, rent rowboats and paddleboats to go boating on the artificial lake, or attend various outdoor performances, concerts and cultural events that are held in the park.
