La Sagrada Familia
La Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage site and Antoni Gaudi’s magnum opus, is undoubtedly the most iconic and most popular structure in Barcelona, with nearly 3 million visitors per year. Gaudí started work on La Sagrada Familia in 1882 and worked on it steadily until his death in 1962. However, he only managed to complete the crypt, the apse walls, a portal and a tower. Since then, a series of architects have attempted to continue his legacy.
The style of the basilica is likened to Spanish Late Gothic, Catalan Modernism and Art Nouveau. The surreal structure, with its rainbow-hued stained-glass windows, is slated for completion in 2026, but even in its unfinished state, it remains an absolute must-see for every visitor to the Catalan capital.
