Córdoba

Córdoba was a major cultural and intellectual center during the Moorish rule of the Iberian Peninsula. It was the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba, which extended its influence across much of Spain during the 8th – 13th century. The Great Mosque of Córdoba, also known as the Mezquita, was constructed during this time and is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. During the 13th – 15th century, Córdoba came under Christian rule and the Mezquita was converted into a cathedral.

Today, Córdoba is a thriving city known for its historic charm and stunning architecture, including the Mezquita-Catedral (Great Mosque-Cathedral), Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, Juderia (Jewish Quarter), Synagogue of Córdoba, Roman Bridge, Calahorra Tower, Palace of Viana, and the Royal Botanical Gardens of Córdoba. It is also famous for its flamenco music and dance scene, cultural festivals, and culinary delights.
