Crater Lake National Park is famous for Crater Lake, which formed nearly 7,700 years ago when a violent eruption triggered the collapse of a towering volcano, making it the deepest lake in America, and one of the deepest on Earth. Fed by rain and snow, the Lake is famous for extremely pure, deep blue waters. The Rim Drive, surrounding the lake, offers spectacular views of the park’s volcanic formations. There are also ninety miles of trails that meander through diverse forests, and rise to peaks with views of the lake. Visitors can also explore the Lake’s geology on boat or trolley tours.
