Santa Maria delle Grazie
Santa Maria delle Grazie is a convent and church in Milan that is home to the world-famous mural “The Last Supper,” painted by Leonardo da Vinci between 1494 and 1498. The mural represents the last dinner between Jesus and the twelve apostles, and specifically the moment after which Jesus announced that one of his apostles would betray him. The church is also home to several other famous paintings from the 16th century.
First designed in 1469 by the architect Guiniforte Solari, the church took many years to complete. Unfortunately, some parts of the building were destroyed in World War II, though the wall with the Last Supper miraculously survived. Today, the church is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
