The Acropolis Museum
Designed by Bernard Tschumi and Michael Photiadis, with an extensive use of glass to provide unparalleled views of Athens, the Acropolis Museum houses over 4,250 artifacts found on the Acropolis and its surrounding slopes, ranging from the Greek Bronze Age, to Roman and Byzantine Greece. The Museum has four floors, of which the ground, first and third floors have exhibits, while the second floor has a restaurant, souvenir shop, multi-media center and open spaces with great views of the Acropolis.
Visitors start their tour on the ground floor, where the archaeological excavation of the ancient Athenian settlement are visible through the glass floor. On the first floor are various exhibits from the Archaic period (7th century BC to 79 BC), when city-states were formed and the early roots of democracy were planted. On the third floor is the Parthenon gallery, which showcases the artifacts found inside the shrine, the metopes, and the pediment of the sanctuary.
