Yerbas Buenas Petroglyphs, Atacama

Yerbas Buenas was once used by ancient caravan travelers as a place to rest on their trade expeditions. On the red rocks, one can find several petroglyphs with various themes, including many shamanic forms as well as animals like llamas, foxes and flamingos, human figures, geometric designs, and representations of various activities like hunting and farming. These petroglyphs are believed to have been carved by the indigenous Atacameño people and other ancient cultures that inhabited the region. and are estimated to date back to several thousand years, with some engravings possibly created as far back as 5,000 years ago.
