Aldea de Tulor, Atacama

One of the oldest continuosly inhabited settlements in the Americas, Aldea de Tulor is an archaeological site with the remains of a nearly 3,000 year old village, where the first sedentary tribes crossing the Atacama desert are believed to have lived. The site is associated with the ancient AtacameƱo culture and represents a significant chapter in the history of human settlement in the Atacama Desert.

The most distinctive feature of Aldea de Tulor is its circular adobe structures. These structures are well-preserved and were built using mudbrick construction techniques. The circular design is believed to have been chosen for its structural stability and ability to withstand the desert’s harsh climate. Visitors can see various of these circular structures attached to each other, now half covered in sand, and a reconstruction of these circular houses.
