Teatro Colón

The Teatro Colón (Columbus Theater) is the main opera house in Buenos Aires. The current theater opened on 25 May 1908, replacing the original theater which opened in 1857. After a period of decline, it was closed for refurbishment for four years, before opening again on 24 May 2010. The exceptional acoustic and architectural features of the building place it at the level of world-renowned theaters like La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, London’s Covent Garden and the Metropolitan NY. Several famous artists have performed at the theater including conductors like Leonard Bernstein and the legendary tenors, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti.
