Taronga Zoo

Located a 12-minute ferry ride from Sydney’s Central Business District, Taronga Zoo is situated in Sydney Harbor. The zoo was officially opened in 1916 and is home to over 2.600 animals and 250 different species. Taronga Zoo saw Australia’s first and second elephant births, and is home to a large number of threatened and endangered species. The zoo has transformed over the last 100 years, growing from a traditional zoo to an education and conservation center, for both wildlife and Australia’s First People’s culture and connection with the land and animals.
