Mendoza Province

Mendoza, a province in western central Argentina, on the border with Chile, is famous worldwide for its wines. Responsible for 80% of Argentine wine production, Mendoza is most famous for the Malbec varietal, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Torrontés and Chardonnay varieties are also produced here. While there are over 1500 wineries in the province, some of the best wineries to visit include Bodega Familia Zuccardi, Bodega Trapiche, Bodega Tempus Alba, La Azul, Pulenta Estate, Alta Vista, Casarena, Carmelo Patti, Matervini, and Caro.

In addition to its vineyards, the Mendoza province is home to the highest mountain in the world outside of Asia, the Aconcagua (22,833 ft above sea level), several spectacular ski resorts, majestic canyons like the Cañón del Atuel, and relaxing thermal spas like the Termas Cachueta. Visitors can also partake in several adventure activities like horseback riding, ziplining and white water rafting.

Mendoza city, the capital of the province, was founded in 1561. Today, it is a cosmopolitan city known for its tree-lined streets, sunny climate, world-class restaurants that serve delicious traditional asado dishes, and the famous Vendimia Festival, a two-week celebration of the grape harvest that occurs in late February/early March.
