Puerto Madryn, Coastal Patagonia

Located in Coastal Patagonia, on the Golfo Nuevo Bay, Puerto Madryn is known for its sandy beaches, restaurant-lined promenade, lighthouse, and most importantly, Valdes Peninsula, which is home to penguins and elephant seals. The waters of Golfo Nuevo Bay also serve as breeding grounds for southern right whales from May to December.

The town was founded in 1865 by Welsh immigrants, and grew as a result of the building of the Central Chubut Railway by Welsh, Spanish and Italian immigrants. During the 1982 Falklands war with Great Britain, Argentine prisoners of war captured in the Falklands were repatriated here by the British.
