Hwange National Park
Located close to the edge of the Kalahari desert, Hwange is the largest National Park in Zimbabwe, with a total area of around 14,600 square kilometers. It is famous for being one of the world’s greatest elephant reserves with around 40,000 tuskers, as well as home to one of Africa’s largest populations of endangered wild dog. One can also find lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo and more than 400 species of birds in the park.
Game viewing in Hwange National Park Zimbabwe is superb during the dry winter months. The park has no permanent natural water sources, so once the rains have stopped and the landscape starts to dry out from June onwards, animals have to rely on the manmade pumped waterholes for water. There are several safari camps and lodges in the park which offer a range of safari experiences from self driving to guided driving safaris, walking safaris and horseback safaris.
