Boulders Beach Penguin Colony

An hour south of Cape town, near Simon’s town on the Cape Peninsula, lies Boulder Beach – a sanctuary for rare African penguins that are about 45 centimeters tall and weigh around 3-5 kg. These African penguins are an endangered species, almost on the verge of extinction. They can only be found on the coast of South Africa and Namibia. Currently, the population at Boulders Beach is estimated to be around 2,000 to 3,000 birds. The beach has a series of boardwalks from which visitors can observe the penguins at close range.
